When to consider this work

Organizations changing teams, shifts, or staffing, or seeing recurring role conflicts in feedback, may start with a selected department. Include managers, OH&S, HR, and workers, with appropriate professional support for sensitive individual cases.

Common workplace challenges

If managers can identify survey responses, workers may not report concerns honestly. A stress-relief event alone will not address pressure if schedules and workload remain unchanged.

Standard guidance

ISO 45003:2021 gives guidance on managing work-related psychosocial risks within an ISO 45001-based OH&S system. It is not a personal mental-health assessment, diagnostic, or treatment tool. See the ISO catalogue.

Suggested work stages

  1. Describe work patterns, concerns, and support channels; explain data purpose, access, and aggregation.

  2. Combine suitable records and feedback to form a work-conditions issue list, marking evidence gaps and avoiding unsupported generalizations.

  3. Have accountable managers agree on practical changes to staffing, schedules, handoffs, or role descriptions, with owners and review dates.

  4. Check whether work conditions changed; adjust measures where needed and refer individual support needs to suitable professionals.

Information to prepare

Work allocation, roles, shifts, and recent organizational changes; appropriately aggregated feedback; HR, OH&S, grievance, and referral pathways; current measures, responsible contacts, and review results.

Possible outputs

Possible outputs include an issue register, protected feedback plan, action ownership and schedule, and organizational follow-up measures. Actual scope, roles, and deliverables require agreement.

Privacy and professional boundaries

Psychosocial information may identify people, especially in small teams. Limit access, explain use, aggregate results carefully, and do not rank people by health status. Individual diagnosis and treatment require qualified professionals.
