FCC Equipment Authorization Services

Clarify US FCC equipment authorization routes for electronic and radio-frequency products, review testing, models, modules and labels, and coordinate application preparation.

Review wireless-module information alongside the complete product configuration

The module, antenna, and hardware and firmware versions intended for shipment are key starting points. Captain International helps bring module and finished-product details into one register, identify evidence needed for FCC assessment, and coordinate testing and application preparation.

Discuss FCC compliance needs

Who this service is for

Manufacturers, brand owners and importers shipping electronic equipment, wireless products or related modules to the United States. Applicable requirements depend on device functions and rules.

Two main equipment authorization procedures

FCC distinguishes Certification and Supplier's Declaration of Conformity (SDoC). Certification is assessed by an FCC-recognized Telecommunications Certification Body (TCB) using documentation and test data. SDoC also requires applicable tests and evidence; it is not a declaration without supporting evidence. See FCC equipment authorization procedures.

Determine the route using current effective rules, product functions and restrictions—not the product name or a customer's verbal request alone.

Recent rule changes

An FCC final rule published in the Federal Register on September 11, 2026 states an effective date of October 13, 2026 and addresses authorization and sales requirements for certain supply-chain equipment. Projects crossing that date should confirm applicable conditions. See the official final rule.

A separate document published on August 7, 2026 proposed changes including equipment registration for SDoC. This page does not treat proposed provisions as effective requirements. See the official proposal.

Documents to prepare

Use a model comparison to list electronic and radio functions for each version, then provide product specifications, block diagrams, circuit diagrams, internal and external photos, and operating instructions. For products with wireless modules, include module identifiers, antenna details and configurations covered by existing reports.

Note the draft label and version intended for shipment so that records can be checked for consistency. Confidential drawings can be provided after agreeing on a secure transfer method.

Possible project deliverables

Authorization-route assessment, testing-submission list, model and module comparison, supplemental-document tracking and label-review comments. Authorization depends on the applicable procedure and assessment results.

Frequently asked questions

If a product uses an already authorized module, is no further assessment needed?

Review the module authorization conditions, finished-product configuration, antenna and use to determine what can be reused and what additional work is needed. Provide the module identifier and product design details.

Can a CE electromagnetic-compatibility report replace FCC testing?

Compare test bases, models, test configurations and report contents, then confirm acceptability with the receiving test or certification body.

Do antenna, enclosure or firmware changes require an update?

Assess the impact before deciding whether additional testing, document updates or another action is needed. Do not infer impact from the apparent size of a design change.

Next step

Provide intended use, wireless functions, module information and existing reports to identify an appropriate assessment route.
