When a customer questionnaire or disclosure request arrives, first identify the reporting year, entities, and products it covers. Clarifying purpose and scope helps assign work to finance, facilities, procurement, and HR instead of restarting data collection for each submission.
Find the workstream from the requested deliverable
| Current need | Related work |
|---|---|
| Establish annual organizational emissions data | GHG inventory |
| Provide carbon data for a product | Product carbon footprint |
| Supply emissions information to EU customers | CBAM data preparation |
| Prepare impact and management disclosures | GRI reporting |
| Organize investor sustainability information | IFRS S1/S2 |
| Respond to climate, water, or forest questionnaires | CDP disclosure |
| Improve supplier-assessment evidence | EcoVadis, RBA |
| Plan targets and implementation data | SBTi targets |
| Clarify nature connections at sites and in materials | Biodiversity and nature |
Methods, data depth, and responsibilities differ across these workstreams. Source records may be reused, but one report does not automatically satisfy every framework. Each topic page identifies its sources and applicability conditions.
Connect data collection with internal management
Create a request register recording the recipient, period, boundary, data owner, and reviewer for each item. Separate available evidence, items requiring recalculation, work not yet implemented, and unresolved questions. Record data gaps honestly rather than substituting broad commitments for actual practice.
Possible project stages
- Confirm deliverables and deadlines; retain the original customer or regulator wording.
- Check methods and organizational boundaries, then assign data fields to responsible teams.
- Prepare calculations, disclosure text, or questionnaire responses and cross-check periods, definitions, and evidence.
- Have the organization confirm figures and commitments, then keep an update and improvement register.
Possible deliverables include a data inventory, calculation files, disclosure drafts, questionnaire evidence index, and improvement tracker. Platform operations, third-party assurance, and formal submission are scoped separately; every project is not assumed to include all of them.
Information to prepare and estimates
Provide the request, reporting year, covered entities or sites, current reports, and deadline. Effort depends on the number of products and sites, data quality, supplier responses, and review cycles. External assurance, evaluation, and platform fees should be confirmed separately.
